A spacious Victorian-style home has come on the market in historic Capitol View Park in Silver Spring, Md.

Tucked away on a winding, tree-lined road, the home sits on a hill and has great year-round views of the mature landscape surrounding it.

Capitol View Park, a quaint neighborhood with about 350 homes, is known as Montgomery County’s First Historic District. The area offers a charming old-time atmosphere even though it’s just minutes from the hustle and bustle of city life.

The house at 10111 Meadowneck Court was built in 1995 and is on the market for $659,000. Among its many amenities is a spacious, open floor plan that could accommodate holiday entertaining.

A driveway leads to the attached two-car garage. Guests enter the main level of the home by walking up a set of stairs leading to a covered front porch that gives the feeling of being nestled among treetops. This is a great spot to set out a couple of rocking chairs and enjoy the scenic view.

Hardwood floors gleam throughout the main level, and high ceilings add to the open and airy feel. The grand entry foyer opens directly into a large library, which also can be used as a formal living room, and into a separate dining room set off with four stately columns.

A wall-sized arched picture window in the library faces the front of the home, offering a scenic view. The dining room has crown and chair-rail molding.

The nicely sized eat-in kitchen can be accessed through swinging doors opening from both the dining room and the foyer.

In addition to Whirlpool appliances, including a refrigerator, dishwasher and self-cleaning oven, the kitchen comes with a Jenn-Air gas range that was added this year. Other amenities in the kitchen range from a built-in wine rack and desk to a large broom closet and a center island with a mini breakfast bar.

The spacious living room has a cozy fireplace. The back wall is filled with two sets of doors with transom windows that enable sunlight to flow freely throughout the room. Those doors open onto a private backyard deck that has a great parklike setting.

Instead of greeting guests at the front door, the hardwood staircase to the upstairs level is situated unobtrusively across from the dining room. New plush carpeting has been installed on the upper, bedroom level.

A nice feature of this level is an oversized hall landing that can double as an open, relaxing sitting area to be used before turning in for the night. The master suite comes with a double-door entry, vaulted ceiling and a large walk-in closet with convenient organizers.

There are pocket doors from the master bedroom to the bathroom as well as from the bathroom to the toilet area. A Jacuzzi tub is a highlight of the room, but there’s also a large stand-up corner shower.

Two of the three remaining bedrooms have a double-door closet. They share a hall bath and have great window views.

An unfinished daylight lower level is ready to be finished by the new owners. A rough-in for the plumbing has been finished.

The Capitol View Park Historical Society is dedicated to preserving the neighborhood’s charm and offers a pamphlet for visitors interested in taking a self-guided walking tour of the community.
