THE NEWS: Smart phone maker Research in Motion Ltd. says it has not given the Indian government access to e-mails that its corporate clients send from BlackBerry phones.
THE BACKDROP: RIM’s talks with India continued after the United Arab Emirates announced plans to ban e-mail and other activity on BlackBerry smart phones, starting in October, in the name of national security.
THE TECHNOLOGY: RIM says no one _ not even the company itself _ can access its customers’ e-mails. The messages aren’t stored on its servers, and only the customers have the encryption codes.
