How did you get started in real estate? I was in public relations in the aviation industry for more than 10 years and decided to make a career change, so I joined my mother (30 years in real estate) and sister (15 years in real estate) who at the time had been working together for several years. We’re known as the 3wilders.

How long have you been with the current company? Since 2003

Worst experience buying or selling a house: My favorite sale (the penthouse condo with the private roof deck) was also one of my most challenging and time-consuming because the seller was supposed to provide my client with building permits for the roof deck prior to settlement. This didn’t happen, so there was a $5,000 escrow held by the settlement agent until the permits were provided. Ultimately, the seller was unable to provide the permits, so we had to hire a structural engineer and an architect to confirm the integrity and structural soundness of the roof deck and have it re-permitted. The costs were deducted from the escrow and the remainder returned to the seller. It took about 18 months after settlement to clear up this matter. I learned a great deal about the D.C. permitting process, and it reconfirmed the importance of being patient and persistent and of obtaining a strong escrow when dealing with issues like this.
