c Ladies’ Night bar specials are illegal in Minnesota. The Minnesota Department of Human Rights says they are unfair gender discrimination.

c In San Luis Obispo, Calif., it is against the law to feed ducks. The fear is that feeding ducks increases pollution, which is bad for the planet.

c New York City has a de facto ban on bake sales in public schools. Officials are concerned that bake sales increase child obesity.

c Massachusetts state law requires children in day care to brush their teeth after meals. Curiously, there is no law yet to require them to eat their greens.

c It is illegal to buy more than 288 bottles of wine per year in Ohio. No violators have yet been identified, nor is there any suggestion why 288 bottles is fine, but 289 threatens public safety.

c Jupiter, Fla., fines it residents $1,000 per day if their grass grows more than 8 inches tall. The town council determined that a fine of $250 was not enough to deter flagrant lawn growers.
