Organizers are predicting at least 2,500 participants will rally Tuesday on the West Lawn of the U.S. Capitol for comprehensive immigration reform legislation.
The Reform Immigration for Families: Family Unity Cannot Wait event is expected to include delegations that boarded buses from seven states over the weekend. They will join local families, many facing deportation or family separation, as they visit congressional offices, hold a vigil and a procession of prayers beginning at 3 p.m. and ending at 6 p.m., according to Reform Immigration for America.
Rep. Luis V. Gutierrez, Illinois Democrat, “will unveil the principles outlined in the comprehensive immigration reform bill he is working on and will introduce later this fall,” organizers say.
Gustavo Torres, executive director of CASA of Maryland Inc., is also among the scheduled speakers.
