Shiloh Baptist Church in Northwest Washington is planning a special veterans recognition on Sunday. A roll call will be conducted during morning worship services to recognize members of the military and their families, including those serving in Iraq or Afghanistan, recently separated veterans and those who lost their lives in combat. Military artifacts provided by Shiloh members will be displayed prominently.
The congregation also is sponsoring a clothing drive for service members and their families and has partnered with AmVets for distribution to hospitals, shelters for the homeless and thrift stores that directly serve wounded and transitioning servicemen and women. Shiloh also will host a special speaker - Army Capt. James D. Key II, who serves at Arlington National Cemetery and is pastor of Woodlawn Chapel Gospel Service at Fort Belvoir.
Capt. Key, who earned his master’s and doctoral degrees from Howard University Divinity School, served in Baghdad. He has numerous military honors, including the Bronze Star, two Meritorious Service Medals, National Defense Service Medal and Iraq Campaign Medal.
