FREDERICK, Md. (AP) — A vintage automobile buried for 50 years in Tulsa, Okla., will be brought to Frederick for a good washing.
The 1957 Plymouth Belvedere was buried in honor of Oklahoma’s 50th anniversary celebration in 1957.
It was unearthed during a centennial celebration last month and awarded to Bowling Green, Md., resident Catherine Johnson.
Miss Johnson, who is in her 90s, is the closest living relative of the late Ray Humbertson, who 50 years ago submitted the closest prediction of the city’s population.Mr. Humbertson died in 1979.
Miss Johnson’s nephew, Robert Carney of Frederick, is scheduled to receive the car during a ceremony in Tulsa on Sept. 14.
He said he will bring it back to Frederick and work with Ultra One Corp., a New Jersey-based maker of rust-removal products, to remove 50 years of rust and make the car presentable.
Mr. Carney will not do a full restoration, which he said would reduce the car’s historic value.
