TODAY”S SCHEDULE
10 a.m. practice (open to the public)
HE SAID WHAT?
We keep having setbacks. We’re just trying to strengthen it right now. I’m tired of the sad, long faces every time I’m not suited up. — Injured running back Clinton Portis
SEEN AND HEARD
For those attending practice and seeing projectiles falling from a series of cranes, those are the practice tapes. They are wrapped in towels, put in a plastic bag and dropped to the field. From there, an employee runs the tapes into the offices to begin the editing and copying process so the coaches can watch the practice tape minutes after getting off the field. …
Chris Cooley took T-shirt and Socks of the Day honors. He sported a Chuck Norris shirt underneath his uniform and again busted out the black Adidas soccer socks.
TEMPERATURE CHECK
THE HEAT Hot
When the Redskins took the field yesterday at 4 p.m., it was 93 degrees, just the beginning of a sure-to-be-brutal week high temps, high humidity.
SHORT PRACTICE Hot
For the second consecutive day, the Redskins had a practice that lasted less than 70 minutes. Not that people are complaining when it”s hot, all anybody wants to do is get inside pronto.
JARED CLAUSS Cold
He earns the title no football player wants first position player cut during training camp. The long-shot defensive lineman was released before practice.
LONG SHOT OF THE DAY
Bryant Shaw
Age: 29
Position: Defensive end
Ht/Wt: 6-3/287
College: Mississippi College
Shaw is the definition of a journeyman still hoping for his first shot. Following a career at Division III Mississippi College, Shaw signed with Dallas in 2000 but was released. He has played for two NFL Europa teams (Scottish Claymores and Berlin) and two Arena League Football teams (Grand Rapids and Colorado). The Redskins have four veteran defensive linemen and aren”t likely to keep a fifth end, so Shaw”s chances are slim.
