
The Zaatari refugee camp in Mafraq, near the border of Syria. The tents were suppose to be temporary but have not been moved since the camp was built in July of 2012. Zaatari, is estimated to hold 120,000 refugees. Jordan currently hosts 202,700 Syrian displaced. 22,000 of which are living in the camp with hundreds more arriving daily as a result of the civil war raging in their country. Hegseth joins veterans, generals to mark 80th anniversary of battle of Iwo Jima
A handful of retired Marines – all in the late 90s or over 100 — joined Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth and Japan’s Prime Minister Takeru Ishida on Saturday to mark the anniversary of one of the bloodiest battles of World War II in the Pacific that ended 80 years ago this week.
