Piney Woods, East Texas - Wild Boar - Sometimes called the "East Texas Grizzly," the elusive wild boar is often found in the rolling hills of East Texas and the Piney Woods. Prized by hunters and despised by landowners, Texas has about half of the nation's population of feral hogs. They are found near rivers, creeks, marshes and bogs; and like to find dense vegetation to conceal and protect them. Look for guided and semi-guided hunts throughout Texas. Feral hogs are considered free-ranging exotic animals and may be taken at any time of the year by any legal means. With proper permits, aerial hunting is also allowed.
