David Kato, an advocacy officer for the gay rights group Sexual Minorities Uganda, was found with serious wounds to his head at his home in Uganda's capital Kampala, late Wednesday Jan 26, 2011, and later died of his injuries. A Ugandan tabloid newspaper called Rolling Stone listed a number of men they said were homosexuals last year, including Kato. A handful of retired Marines – all in the late 90s or over 100 — joined Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth and Japan’s Prime Minister Takeru Ishida on Saturday to mark the anniversary of one of the bloodiest battles of World War II in the Pacific that ended 80 years ago this week.
