"Lucas" is an example of an MDS robot (mobile, dextrous, and social) being built by the Human Systems Interface Laboratory at the Navy Research Laboratory for Autonomous Systems Research (LASR) in Washington, D.C. This robot can actually respond to human inconsistencies, such as determining that the second person on the scene of a fire does not have the up-to-date information on the status of the fire. A handful of retired Marines – all in the late 90s or over 100 — joined Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth and Japan’s Prime Minister Takeru Ishida on Saturday to mark the anniversary of one of the bloodiest battles of World War II in the Pacific that ended 80 years ago this week.
