This May 18, 2010 photo shows historian Loren Latker posing with his collection of photographic memorabilia of Los Angeles' Raymond Chandler at his home in the Marina del Rey area of Los Angeles. Chandler wanted to be buried next to his beloved wife, Cissy. That they would end up about a block apart, one in a cemetery, the other on a mausoleum warehouse shelf, is a tale with many twists. But thanks to a court order this month, expect a very un-Chandler-like happy ending. A handful of retired Marines – all in the late 90s or over 100 — joined Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth and Japan’s Prime Minister Takeru Ishida on Saturday to mark the anniversary of one of the bloodiest battles of World War II in the Pacific that ended 80 years ago this week.
