People line up to stitch the official 9/11 National flag during a stitching ceremony Thursday, July 14, 2011 at the Russell Senate Office Building in Washington, D.C. This flag, which was flying just south of the World Trade Center on Sept. 11, 2001, is making its way around the country and is being stitched back together by Americans, many of whom have suffered their own tragedies. Where pieces of the original flag are missing, people are adding their own pieces, including a piece of the flag that was laid under Pres. Abraham Lincoln after he had been shot. (Barbara L.
