Bea Arthur – Usually recognized for her roles in “Maude” and “The Golden Girls,” this actress was also one of the first members of the Women's Reserve. Before starting a career in the entertainment industry, Bea Arthur spent two years driving trucks for the Marine Corps and was honorably discharged in 1945.

A handful of retired Marines – all in the late 90s or over 100 — joined Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth and Japan’s Prime Minister Takeru Ishida on Saturday to mark the anniversary of one of the bloodiest battles of World War II in the Pacific that ended 80 years ago this week.
