
Charles Barkley, former NBA basketball player, contemplated running for Governor of Alabama - Barkley spoke out for many years as a Republican. In 1995, he considered running as a 1998 Republican candidate for Alabama's governor. In 2006, he altered his political stance, saying, "I was a Republican until they lost their minds." In 2007, he publicly supported Barack Obama for President. In 2008, Barkley announced that he would be running for Governor of Alabama in 2014 as an Independent. He later backed off that idea.

Hegseth joins veterans, generals to mark 80th anniversary of battle of Iwo Jima
A handful of retired Marines – all in the late 90s or over 100 — joined Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth and Japan’s Prime Minister Takeru Ishida on Saturday to mark the anniversary of one of the bloodiest battles of World War II in the Pacific that ended 80 years ago this week.
