Sri Lankan Provincial Councils Minister Sarath Weerasekara said Thursday that India has no moral right to interfere with the country’s internal affairs by insisting on power sharing with minority Tamils, because the regional power failed to fulfil its obligations under a 1987 agreement to disarm separatist rebels and to ensure a non-return to hostilities. Weerasekara’s speech in Parliament is seen as the island nation’s response to Modi who in a telephone conversation with Rajapaksa last month asked for a full implementation of constitutional provisions that provide for power sharing with Tamil minority regions.
