The infant riding in the car driven by his mother died after their sedan was rear-ended by the sheriff's patrol vehicle authorities said. The California Highway Patrol said in a statement the woman's car was being followed by a marked sheriff's patrol car on Interstate 5 when the sheriff's vehicle rear-ended the Ford Saturday, Dec. 14, 2019, sending it down an embankment "for unknown reasons that are currently under investigation," The Stockton Record reported. A handful of retired Marines – all in the late 90s or over 100 — joined Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth and Japan’s Prime Minister Takeru Ishida on Saturday to mark the anniversary of one of the bloodiest battles of World War II in the Pacific that ended 80 years ago this week.
