Martinez, who survived a deadly home explosion caused by a leaking and abandoned underground gas pipeline near her home, urged Colorado regulators Thursday, Nov. 21, 2019 to verify that energy firms who say they've complied with rules actually do so. Martinez made her plea as regulators consider new underground oil and gas pipeline safety regulation prompted by the 2017 explosion that killed her husband, her brother, injured her 11-year-old son and left her with burns covering 40% of her body.
