The San Francisco Zoo sends the wool to a Native American Reservation where it will be used for traditional weaving. This helps ensure the culture and rituals of weaving among the Native American tribes continues. A new program designed to promote the purchase of wool and mohair from producers on the Navajo Nation is returning to the reservation as part of a project developed through a partnership between Black Mesa Water Coalition and Diné College's Land Grand Office.
