FILE - In this May 12, 2014 file photo, Orleans Parish District Attorney Leon Cannizzaro tells reporters that Reginald Adams has been freed after being unjustly imprisoned for 34 years because former prosecutors and former detectives withheld evidence that would have acquitted him of killing a police officer's wife in 1979. Cannizzaro has turned to a federal appeals court in hopes of killing a lawsuit over his office’s use of phony subpoenas and alleged coercion of witnesses. The suit against Cannizzaro’s office was filed in 2017 by civil rights groups. Last month, a federal judge largely rejected a request to dismiss the suit. (AP Photo/Janet McConnaughey, File)
