A lawyer who has billed Iowa taxpayers nearly $1 million to fight a lawsuit filed by Godfrey, who says Gov. Kim Reynolds and her predecessor former Iowa Gov. Terry Branstad discriminated against him, is withdrawing from the case. George LaMarca, who is 73, has represented the state officials for the past seven years says health reasons are forcing him to retire. Judge Brad McCall accepted his withdrawal in a Wednesday, Sept. 5, 2018, order and granted a delay in the Jan. 14 trial. (The Des Moines Register via AP)
