FILE - In this Oct. 20, 2017 file photo, former Honolulu Police Chief Louis Kealoha, right, and his wife, Katherine, leave federal court in Honolulu. Lawyers who have been representing Kealoha and his wife in a corruption case say the couple can't afford to pay them. The lawyers suggest that the Kealoha's receive court-appointed defense attorneys from outside Hawaii. The motion says the Kealohas can no longer fund a defense. They're accused of framing a relative in an attempt to discredit him in a financial dispute. Katherine Kealoha is accused of bilking relatives and others to fund a lavish lifestyle.
