In the last warm weeks of summer, it's hard to imagine that all of today's tomatoes and corn and peaches will be but memories in just a couple of months. With a bit of forethought, and a bit of time, we can safeguard some of this magnificent produce and draw upon it all winter long. A handful of retired Marines – all in the late 90s or over 100 — joined Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth and Japan’s Prime Minister Takeru Ishida on Saturday to mark the anniversary of one of the bloodiest battles of World War II in the Pacific that ended 80 years ago this week.
