Two popular but endangered great apes are leaving the zoo in hopes that Casey and Berani the orangutan will father babies in their new homes. Zoo officials said in a news release Tuesday, June 6, 2017, that Berani had a daughter eight years ago, but Casey has been paired with four different females without any offspring. A handful of retired Marines – all in the late 90s or over 100 — joined Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth and Japan’s Prime Minister Takeru Ishida on Saturday to mark the anniversary of one of the bloodiest battles of World War II in the Pacific that ended 80 years ago this week.
