On Friday, Sept. 6, 2019, the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service released the results of 48 soil samples on the refuge that found no radioactivity above the cleanup standard. The refuge is on the buffer zone around the former Rocky Flats nuclear weapons plant, which made plutonium triggers for warheads. Earlier tests from a different part of the buffer zone found elevated levels of plutonium, while a second test from the same area showed lower levels. (AP Photo/David Zalubowski, File)
