The former Catholic school building has been vacant since 2005. The project is expected to cost between $4-5 million with hopes of turning the 21,500-square-foot space into a mixed-income apartment building with 15-25 residential units, 20 percent of which will be considered affordable. A handful of retired Marines – all in the late 90s or over 100 — joined Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth and Japan’s Prime Minister Takeru Ishida on Saturday to mark the anniversary of one of the bloodiest battles of World War II in the Pacific that ended 80 years ago this week.
