In this Feb. 27, 1960, photo, black demonstrators including Kenneth Frazier and John Lewis, center, hold a sit-in at the closed counter of Woolworth on Fifth in downtown Nashville, Tenn., as Nashville police officers moved in. On that day, nearly 100 young African Americans, along with a few white supporters, were arrested and jailed. Future U.S. Rep. John Lewis was among them. It marked the first of his many arrests to come. Hegseth joins veterans, generals to mark 80th anniversary of battle of Iwo Jima
A handful of retired Marines – all in the late 90s or over 100 — joined Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth and Japan’s Prime Minister Takeru Ishida on Saturday to mark the anniversary of one of the bloodiest battles of World War II in the Pacific that ended 80 years ago this week.
