In this Wednesday, Dec. 11, 2019 photo, Kristen Yaldor poses at her home in Odessa, Fla. Just over a year ago, Yaldor and her husband were on a guided river tour while on vacation in Zimbabwe when a hippopotamus flipped their canoe. Her husband made it to shore safely, but a hippo chomped down on her leg, pulled her underwater and started to thrash her around. Somehow, she escaped and survived. A year later, she's still working to regain the use of her leg, but she hasn't lost her resolve. (Octavio Jones/Tampa Bay Times via AP)
