
In this Oct. 15, 2017 photo, family and friends surprised Bloomfield, Iowa, resident Jerry Gilbert with a special award commemorating his 31 years of attendance at the Early Tin Dusters' Fall Color Run in Quincy, Ill. Gilbert has an aggressive form of brain cancer, and the group wanted to make possibly, his last Fall Color Run special. Nearly 20 years after Gilbert started to drive to the event in his 1939 Ford Deluxe that ended in an accident. The group presented him with his surprised him with his original Ford Deluxe rebuilt. Hegseth joins veterans, generals to mark 80th anniversary of battle of Iwo Jima
A handful of retired Marines – all in the late 90s or over 100 — joined Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth and Japan’s Prime Minister Takeru Ishida on Saturday to mark the anniversary of one of the bloodiest battles of World War II in the Pacific that ended 80 years ago this week.
