Cheney was riding his dirt bike when collided head first with an ATV that had pulled into the landing area of a jump and was airlifted to Utah Valley Hospital. Cheney suffered a fractured skull, a brain bruise, two broken vertebrae and loss of blood. He was saved by two emergency medical technicians who happened to be near the sand dune where he landed. A handful of retired Marines – all in the late 90s or over 100 — joined Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth and Japan’s Prime Minister Takeru Ishida on Saturday to mark the anniversary of one of the bloodiest battles of World War II in the Pacific that ended 80 years ago this week.
