Czech film director Vera Chytilova, one of the leading filmmakers of the new wave of the Czechoslovak cinema of the 1960s has died.The Czech public radio and television say Chytilova died Wednesday March 12, 2014 in Prague. She was 85. For last several years, Chytilova was battling an unspecified illness. Chytilova’s highly acclaimed farcical comedy “Daisies” from 1966 represented a radical departure from the socialist realism, a typical communist-era filmmaking focusing on the working class. Hegseth joins veterans, generals to mark 80th anniversary of battle of Iwo Jima
A handful of retired Marines – all in the late 90s or over 100 — joined Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth and Japan’s Prime Minister Takeru Ishida on Saturday to mark the anniversary of one of the bloodiest battles of World War II in the Pacific that ended 80 years ago this week.
