Firefighters are still battling two major blazes that have burned for at least a week and destroyed homes in Southern California. The Stagecoach Fire in Kern County has charred more than 12 square miles (31 square kilometers) of dry brush since breaking out Aug. 3. The blaze has destroyed 37 structures, including a dozen residences. Officials estimate crews have protected at least 300 homes south of Lake Isabella. Evacuation orders have been lifted. Hegseth joins veterans, generals to mark 80th anniversary of battle of Iwo Jima
A handful of retired Marines – all in the late 90s or over 100 — joined Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth and Japan’s Prime Minister Takeru Ishida on Saturday to mark the anniversary of one of the bloodiest battles of World War II in the Pacific that ended 80 years ago this week.
