A retired farmer who now lives in that home in town, Levang says the population growth and development in the area has been astounding for a town that once had 1,500 residents and now has as many as 7,000 in the town and its outskirts. As a lifelong resident of the area, and even though there were two other booms in the region, he says he's never seen anything like this. Hegseth joins veterans, generals to mark 80th anniversary of battle of Iwo Jima
A handful of retired Marines – all in the late 90s or over 100 — joined Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth and Japan’s Prime Minister Takeru Ishida on Saturday to mark the anniversary of one of the bloodiest battles of World War II in the Pacific that ended 80 years ago this week.
