Despondent over the death of Turgeon in a car accident, Fry nearly played herself out of contention for a spot on the U.S. women’s hockey team that was soon to be selected for the Sochi Olympics. Two years later she found motivation in her sorrow, telling her parents, “I’m going for it,” and rededicating herself to the sport that she and Turgeon shared. (AP Photo/Petr David Josek)
