The keepers of Washington's Mount Vernon estate on Friday announced a major reinterpretation of the largest room in the Founding Father's riverfront mansion. For decades, interpreters showed the room to tourists as Washington's large dining room. Upon further review, historians at Mount Vernon have concluded that the room Washington referred to as the "new room" that was added at the start of the American Revolution was actually more of a multi-purpose salon to impress and entertain visitors. A yearlong reinterpretation of the New Room will be unveiled to the public on Saturday, with a more authentic paint scheme and dozens of artifacts that Washington himself kept in the room. Hegseth joins veterans, generals to mark 80th anniversary of battle of Iwo Jima
A handful of retired Marines – all in the late 90s or over 100 — joined Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth and Japan’s Prime Minister Takeru Ishida on Saturday to mark the anniversary of one of the bloodiest battles of World War II in the Pacific that ended 80 years ago this week.
