This was the scene Saturday, May 3, 2014, as state police notified the families of two adults and three children who were found dead in a cabin in rural Washington Township by a friend sometime in the late morning. State Police Capt. David Young said the preliminary investigation showed no signs of foul play and the cause of the deaths was not considered suspicious. A handful of retired Marines – all in the late 90s or over 100 — joined Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth and Japan’s Prime Minister Takeru Ishida on Saturday to mark the anniversary of one of the bloodiest battles of World War II in the Pacific that ended 80 years ago this week.
