ADVANCE FOR WEEKEND EDITIONS, FEB. 1-2 - This undated product shot released by Exterior Skate Protection, shows the Shotblocker XT, top, for front hockey skate protection, and Shotblocker XT Lite, bottom, for side skate protection. According to the company's website, numerous NHL teams are using the equipment to help protect players ankles and feet from getting injured by flying pucks. Shot-blocking is one of the sport's under appreciated skills, but it can come with a price, as in a bruised or broken foot and an absence from the ice for days or weeks.
