A new weapon for Canadian Armed Forces is in development by the Defence Research & Development Canada and Colt Canada. The gun fires lightweight telescoped ammunition, and includes secondary modules that add either a three-round 40 mm grenade launcher or a 12-gauge shotgun. It also features a data port to allow the attachment of smart accessories, such as electro-optical sights and position sensors that connect to command and control networks.
