National Edition News cover for January 12, 2014 - Ariel Sharon, former Israeli prime minister, dies at 85: Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon smiles after voting at the Likud Central Committee meeting in Tel Aviv, Israel, Monday Sept. 26, 2005. Sharon fended off a challenge to his leadership of the Likud Party on Monday, winning a key party vote by a razor-thin margin. Likud members voted 1,433 to 1,329, or 52 percent to 48 percent, against a proposal by Sharon's opponents to move up the date of party primaries to November. The decision means the primary will be held on schedule next spring, as Sharon wanted. (AP Photo/Kevin Frayer)
