NATIONAL SEPTEMBER 11 MEMORIAL MUSEUM VIA ASSOCIATED PRESS The names of those who perished as a result of the Sept. 11, 2001 attacks are inscribed on massive, waterfall-graced reflecting pools ringed by white oak trees at the new memorial plaza in New York City. Because the names aren't alphabetical, handheld devices and electronic kiosks will be needed to direct families to their loved one's name.

A handful of retired Marines – all in the late 90s or over 100 — joined Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth and Japan’s Prime Minister Takeru Ishida on Saturday to mark the anniversary of one of the bloodiest battles of World War II in the Pacific that ended 80 years ago this week.
