Ebola has killed more than 2,000 people in Liberia, one of the hardest-hit nations in the ongoing world health crisis. Liberia, Sierra Leone and Guinea are the only remaining African countries still fighting the disease after the WHO declared Nigeria, the continent's most populous nation, free of the virus. A handful of retired Marines – all in the late 90s or over 100 — joined Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth and Japan’s Prime Minister Takeru Ishida on Saturday to mark the anniversary of one of the bloodiest battles of World War II in the Pacific that ended 80 years ago this week.
