Republican Senate Candidate Mark Kirk won’t hold his tongue in future interactions with Democratic opponent Alexi Giannoulias during the Illinois Senate race.
Kirk vowed on record in Monday’s Chicago Tribune that his future campaign advertisements may not hold back from attacking Giannoulias full-force. The heated campaign between the two has seen Giannoulias accuse Kirk of being a “liar” about his military record while Kirk has scorned Giannoulias as a “mob banker” for loans his former bank provided felons.
Tribune reporters Bob Secter and Todd Lighty asked if the two candidates could refrain from airing future insult-heavy commercials in the future. Giannoulias said he’d “go positive” for kinder ads paid by his staff provided Kirk did as well.
Kirk’s response?
“I think we’re going to have the full First Amendment in this race,” he said.
