It was too late to blog when yours truly got back to the hotel from a very long Saturday that concluded with the post-enshrinement celebration of Art Monk and Darrell Green. So here’s an update on the former Redskins who surfaced at that shindig who hadn’t been spotted earlier in the weekend: Ray Brown, Jim Lachey, Doc Walker, Don Warren and Monk’s business partner, Charles Mann.
Among those strangely absent, unless I missed them in the throngs were Monte Coleman and Vernon Dean, each of whom was mentioned in the induction speeches, as well as Green’s longtime defensive coordinator Richie Petitbon, Earnest Byner (who co-founded the Good Samaritan Foundation with Monk, Mann and Tim Johnson), quarterbacks Joe Theismann and Mark Rypien, cornerback Tom Carter and safety Darryl Morrison.
It was nice that Green mentioned the late Kevin Mitchell in his speech but probably unnecessary to bring up Sean Taylor, whom he had barely met. Of course, the burgundy and gold faithful loved it.
It was interesting that Green cited Terry Robiskie and not Norv Turner and that Monk didn’t mention any coaches. And of course, I was honored that Monk thanked me for making his case to the selection committee.
