The Wizards emerged from tonight’s game with yet another missed opportunity and with some uneasiness as leading scorer Antawn Jamison suffered a right patella tendon strain and is listed as day-to-day.
Jamison suffered the injury with 1:06 left in the second quarter when he came down on it awkwardly. He walked off the court gingerly and then proceeded to the locker room while his teammates played the final minute of the second half.
Jamison came back to start the third quarter and played 18 minutes in the second half when he scored seven of his 13 points. After the game he was in the trainers room for more than an hour receiving treatment on the knee. He’ll be held out of practice on Sunday and then be re-evaluated on Monday when the Wizards play host to the Milwaukee Bucks.
It’s hard to say how serious the injury is, or isn’t, but it’s the same knee in which Jamison suffered a contusion during the preseason. He missed three preseason games and was held out of practice for eight days before returning for the Wizards’ Oct. 17 preseason game in Barcelona.
If Jamison can’t go, it will be interesting to see who takes his place in the starting lineup. Do you go with JaVale McGee — who finally got back into the mix tonight and did a nice job with nine points, four rebounds and a block — and move Andray Blatche to power forward? Or do you go with the trusty Darius Songaila at power forward so Blatche can stay at center? I’d think the latter, but let’s hope for the already downtrodden Wizards’ sake that it ends up being a moot point.
