Point guard Antonio Daniels again will be out of the lineup tonight against the Miami Heat, but he’s hopeful that he could return to action on Friday. Juan Dixon again will start at point guard.
Daniels, who has missed three games this season with a sore right knee, had an MRI done yesterday, and this morning he received a cortisone shot — the first of a four-shot course that he will receive in the next two weeks. He can’t do anything today or tomorrow, but hopes to get back to work on Thursday and be back on the court for Friday’s game at home against Houston.
Coach Eddie Jordan revealed that Daniels’ backcourt mate DeShawn Stevenson has been battling some type of nerve-related injury in his hamstrings since the preseason.
“It’s going to bother him for a long time,” Eddie said. “It’s a nerve situation that’s going to come and go. But he’s done a great job losing weight — he was a little overweight coming into training camp — but he’s now below the weight that he had targeted, which is great.”
Stevenson, who has the second-longest consecutive games streak of any active NBA player going, isn’t expected to miss any time, however. And Jordan still counts on him as the team’s best defender.
“He’s always got to be locked in on the best player, which is tough, but he’s a pro,” the coach said.
