March 24: Had a difficult time getting out after the jihadist attacks in Timbuktu. I was lucky to get on a U.N. evacuation flight to Mopti. Then 14 hours by car to Bamako with numerous breakdowns. I am now in Addis. Today, I go on to Berbera and Hargeisa.
Quite an experience, so near a battle zone. This was the first suicide bombing in that region, even though Islamists controlled it for almost 11 months.
SEE RELATED:I reported one suicide bomber who blew himself up, but at the airport two more jihadists who were carrying unexploded belts were killed. The French soldiers detonated both belts for safety.
