A lot of the teams that took steps back this week —- Florida State, Arkansas, Florida, Ohio State, West Virginia and Michigan State, among them —- did so largely because their schedules haven’t given them the opportunity to accomplish anything.
Of course, with Florida State-Oklahoma, West Virginia-Maryland and Florida-Tennessee on tap this week and Arkansas-Alabama next weekend, many of that bunch could take a significant leap before the month is through.
