Navy released its 2012 and 2013 football schedules Thursday.

(In an unrelated note, the SEC released its 2011 football schedule a day earlier —- and yes, that league has to worry about 12 teams rather than one).

In any case, Navy has opted to go the route of letting fans plan well in advance and simply tweak as needed in the next year or two rather than hold things close to the vest and release a schedule eight months before a season starts.

Anyway, neither schedule is littered with surprises:

2012

Sept. 1: vs. Notre Dame in Dublin, Ireland
Sept. 15: at Penn State
Sept. 22: VMI
Sept. 29: San Jose State

Oct. 6: at Air Force
Oct. 13: at Central Michigan
Oct. 20: Indiana
Oct. 27: at East Carolina

Nov. 3: Florida Atlantic
Nov. 10: at Troy
Nov. 17: Texas State

Dec. 8: vs. Army in Philadelphia
TBA: Fight Hunger Bowl in San Francisco (if Navy wins six games)

2013


Sept. 7: at Indiana
Sept. 14: Delaware
Sept. 28: at Western Kentucky

Oct. 5: Air Force
Oct. 12: at Duke
Oct. 19: at Toledo
Oct. 26: Pittsburgh

Nov. 2: at Notre Dame
