CLEVELAND —- Isaiah Armwood hit his only 3-pointer in the closing seconds against George Mason last season.
Not the only 3-pointer of the game, a 69-68 victory in Puerto Rico.

“It’s something that I don’t do but something I had to do at the time,” Armwood said on the eve of the ninth-seeded Wildcats’ NCAA tournament round of 64 rematch with Mason. “It’s just another shot I took.”
Well, sort of.
The Wildcats went on to collect the Puerto Rico Tip-Off title, collect nine straight wins to open the season and rose to No. 3 in the national rankings before Christmas.
And it’s not like it’s a common shot from the sophomore, who attended Montrose Christian in Montgomery County. Armwood attempted only one more 3-pointer the rest of last season, and hasn’t tried one at all this year.
But at that moment, it was a perfect shot for the Wildcats.
“All things work out for the greater good,” teammate Maurice Sutton said with a smile.
Of course, Armwood’s career has more than a game-winning shot in his third outing. He’s averaging 17.4 minutes this season —- up from 11.0 a year ago. The 6-foot-8, 205-pounder is averaging 2.5 points and 3.7 rebounds, and recorded his first career double-double on Feb. 21 against Syracuse.
He also has eight starts for the Wildcats (21-11), all since the start of February.
“I can’t complain at all,” Armwood said. “I like it here. I like everything that they’re about. So far, so good.”
